To raise viceroys, I introduced a female in my aviary. It laid eggs on the poplar. Its caterpillar is similar to the white amiral caterpillar that also feeds on poplar leaves.

The chrysalis has a hump on its back.

The viceroy looks a lot like the monarch, they call it mimetism.
