Hyalophora Cecropia

This is the largest lepidoptera in Canada. The cecropia moth does not feed as an adult. The female emerges at the beginning of june and emits pheromones that the male can sense up to 7 kilometers away to locate her. After mating the female lays 300 eggs plus.

The specimens shown on the pictures were raised on maple (acer negundo) but leaves of other decideous trees can be used to rear these caterpillars.
